What is the Recommended BMW Tire Pressure?

close up of tire tread

Checking your BMW tire pressure should be at the top of your tire care checklist! In general, you’re going to want to inflate your BMW tires to 32 pounds per square inch (PSI). To be sure, check the sticker that’s posted on the inside of your driver’s door, which should point you toward the recommended tire pressure. You can also take a look at your owner’s manual or contact our service team to get a model-specific answer.

Why Is the Right Pressure Important?

Why should you keep a closer eye on your tire air pressure? When your tires are where they’re supposed to be, you’ll be able to accomplish these three important things:

  1. You’ll lower the chance of getting a flat or getting a blowout in Marietta or Johns Creek.
  2. You’ll reduce the wear and tear on your tires through the reduction of friction and wheel spin.
  3. You can up your fuel efficiency by up to 3.3 percent, according to the United States Department of Energy.

How To Check Tire Pressure

With most BMW models, you’ll find a tire pressure monitor on the dashboard that will point out issues with your tire air pressure. However, in some cases, you may need to learn how to check your tire pressure manually. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Unscrew the valve stem cap and set it aside somewhere safe.
  2. Place your tire pressure gauge onto the valve stem and firmly press down.
  3. You’ll find the PSI on the gauge. If you see 32 PSI (or whatever is indicated in your owner’s manual), you don’t need to add more air to your tires.
  4. Take the gauge off.
  5. If you have more than the recommended pressure, let some pressure off by pressing down the center plunger in the valve stem before giving it another check.
  6. If you don’t have enough pressure, add more air, then check the pressure to see if there’s enough.
  7. Put the valve stem cap back in place.

It’s a good idea to check your tire pressure before you start to drive, since cold air will give you a more accurate reading.
